The Virginia Tech Class of 2022 in the Half-Star System

Barring late signings, the 2022 Virginia Tech recruiting class is full with the addition of three prospects on Wednesday. Daequan Wright, Xavier Chaplin and Devin Alves have all signed letters of intent for the Hokies, bringing Tech’s total of 2,022 signers to 24.

If you remember, I decided before the start of the 2021 football season that I was going to change our ranking system to a half-star system which would be ranked like this…

4.5 stars
4 stars
3.5 stars…

etc The reasons for this were that I think there are too many 4-star rookies, and probably too many 3-star rookies as well. For the 2022 recruiting class, the nation’s No. 35 player by 247Sports is ranked as a 4-star prospect, as is the nation’s No. 381 prospect.

The problem with this is that people see four stars next to both players’ names, but in reality player #35 is one spot away from being a 5 star, and player #381 is one spot away from being a 5 star. to be a 3-Star. There is a huge difference in each prospect’s opinion in terms of ranking, but that’s not reflected in the star rating, which is what everyone seems to look at first. Therefore,
