Markem-Imaje launches a new high-resolution inkjet coding system, improving the traceability of secondary packaging

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., January 26, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Markem-Imajepart of Dover (NYSE: DOV), recently announced the release of the new 5940 G Touch DryMT high resolution inkjet coder. The GS1-128 compliant system meets growing industry demands to maintain high resolution barcodes, marks and text on corrugated packaging without incurring the high cost of labels. It also reduces the need for pre-printed corrugated packaging.

The new system features Markem-Imaje’s exclusive Touch Dry inks which dry instantly on contact, allowing better readability of GS1-128 barcodes for more reliable traceability. In addition, unlike liquid inks, Touch Dry inks do not spread along the crimped fibers and do not lose resolution. These inks, available in a variety of colors, are VOC-free, safe to handle and support durability.

Applicable to a wide range of materials, the 5940 G prints highly scannable barcodes on corrugated boxes and trays of produce, beverages, meats, confectionery and many other foods, as well as printing precision on polystyrene for frozen foods and shrink wrap for pallet shipments. Additionally, the system prints clean, crisp information and codes on porous surfaces, including fabrics and non-woven materials for medical masks, gowns and diapers. The system works well in temperatures ranging from 32°F to 104°F (0°C-40°C).

The innovation is also equipped with the patented Intelli’Flow systemMT printhead technology that helps prevent nozzle blockages due to ink splatter and dust buildup. Plus, it has a filtering process that effectively degasses ink during printing and keeps the jet mechanism clean and clear, resulting in better print quality, better throughput, lower maintenance and less downtime.

The system also supports increased throughput by enabling 67% faster heating time. In addition, each unit has one to four printheads to support diverse and complex printing.

The printheads are supported by a specially designed ink tank that is 75% larger than most competitors, reducing operator intervention by up to 43%. Ink containers can also be replaced without stopping production, and the 5940 G offers easy access to internal components, with parts replaced quickly averaging 15 minutes after problem identification.

“The 5940 G System’s revolutionary Intelli’Flow printhead technology, combined with fast-touch, fast-drying inks, consistently delivers exceptional print quality of complex, compliant barcodes on corrugated and other challenging substrates, providing a significant return on investment for customers,” said Greg KasprzakSenior Product Marketing Manager, Markem-Imaje.

Additionally, the 5940 G leverages Markem-Imaje’s packaging intelligence software to help manufacturers centrally manage their entire print job database, streamlining print management. and supporting higher throughput.

“The latest innovation from Markem-Imaje, the 5940 G system, aims to provide intelligence beyond the brand,” noted Kasprzak.
