IK tries to make army merit system controversial: Ahsan – Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Monday that former Prime Minister Imran Khan, through his statement in which he said the coalition government wanted to “appoint an army chief of their choice “to save their skins in cases of corruption, had tried to make the merit system of the Pakistani army controversial and tried to divide people politically.
Speaking to reporters after appearing before Accountability Court-III Judge Syed Asghar Ali in the Narowal Sports City Complex Project (NSCCP) case, he said the way Khan attacked our army during a public gathering in Faisalabad, he thinks our enemy country has never attacked the army in such a far.
He further said that Khan promotes the agenda of his foreign donors.
“As per his program, Khan has destroyed the economy of the country, now the head of the PTI is working on the program to destroy the institutions of the country,” he alleged, adding that sometimes he (Khan) threatens the judiciary , the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Pakistan Army; therefore, the time has come to hold Khan accountable.
Iqbal said that amid the catastrophic flooding, Khan had resorted to polluting political space.
“Imran Niazi continues to pollute the political space and push the country towards extreme polarization and put stains on all state institutions, including the appointment of the new COAS,” he said.
He added that the time had come to apply the scale of justice applied to the leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Talal Chaudhry Daniyal Aziz, Nihal Hashmi and former Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani on Khan . The scale of justice applied to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was not to take a salary from his son, the same should be applied to Khan in the foreign funding case, he said.
The minister said Khan was trying to pressure the courts. Khan wants to get the NRO through large public rallies, he said. Does Imran Khan get license to disrespect institutions for holding large gatherings? He asked.
Asked about clandestine contacts between Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan, he said PML-N does not believe in any contact through any channel with Khan. Khan spread different rumors to save his own skin, he said. Iqbal said Khan had proven himself an anarchist for democracy and the country’s constitution.
Earlier, he and other defendants appeared before Accountability Court-III Judge Syed Asghar Ali in the NSCCP case. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Abid Zakir and Zulfiqar’s attorney for Ahsan Iqbal as well as attorneys for witnesses Azhar Ahmad and Muhsin Raza appeared in court.
The defense lawyer requested the court to adjourn the hearing of the case due to the pending petition to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the dismissal of the motion for acquittal of the accused Ahsan Iqbal, but the court observed that the statement of the prosecution witness will be recorded at the next hearing to be held on September 28.
