CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System Adds New Service Site in Texarkana

TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) – A major medical provider is set to expand services in East Texas with a $50 million construction project.

The land along Gibson Lane and Arista Boulevard will soon become the location of a new hospital in Texarkana, Texas.

“We are expanding the CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System and adding a new service site: CHRISTUSSt. Michael Hospital-West,” said Jason Adams, president of CHRISTUS St. Michael.

Adams said hospital leaders worked for months on the idea of ​​adding a new healthcare facility to the Texarkana area, and now it’s on to build CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital-West. .

“We will be able to accommodate 2,000 to 3,000 admissions per year through inpatient beds and we may see an additional 18,000 visits per year with the emergency room there,” Adams said.

According to Adams, they hope to launch the project within the next two months and it is estimated that it will take 18 to 20 months to complete construction.

“For the region, this will have an economic benefit of approximately $50 million for a construction project, and we will add approximately 100 jobs through this expansion at CHRISTUSSt. Michael Hospital-West,” Adams said.

CHRISTUS has been at its current location for 25 years and leaders say they will continue to operate there once the new facility is built just four miles away.

“We made the announcement this morning. We have great feedback on the possibility of expanding services and expanding the healing ministry of Jesus Christ,” Adams said.

The new licensed hospital is expected to start accepting patients in 2023.
