China is quickly becoming a “huge threat” to the solar system
- A head of the US Space Force said China is building satellites twice as fast as the United States.
- General David Thompson said “Fox News Sunday” that the United States must adapt to overtake China.
- At this rate, China could become the leader in space by the end of the decade.
The US Space Force vice chief of operations warned that China is rapidly expanding its space capabilities and could soon dominate the United States.
While General David Thompson said “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace, the United States is still the world leader in space operations, China is on the way to overtake the country.
“I don’t think it’s a given, they’ll be the leader in space at the end of the decade, but they’re on an incredible pace,” Thompson told Wallace.
China is already launching twice as many satellites into space as the United States. Thompson called the breakthrough a “huge threat.”
“Our capabilities are the best in the world of space, but they are evolving aggressively,” said Thompson. “They are changing rapidly and we have to adapt our approach.”
Thompson told Wallace that China may have the potential to remove U.S. sensors in the near future, but for now, the country already has robots in space that can carry out attacks on U.S. operations.
“They can carry out jamming attacks and dazzling laser attacks. They have a full range of cyber capabilities,” Thompson added.
Axes reported that China launched a hypersonic missile that General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned was “of great concern”. He described it as something similar to a “Sputnik moment”.
Thompson also addressed the threat posed by Russia in space, adding that the country launched a destructive test last month that destroyed its own dead satellites.
He said the Space Force must understand and adapt to these threats and develop solutions to prevent them.
“It’s our job in the Space Force to make sure, if they offer to attack us with something like a space robot or whatever, we have countermeasures, we have tactics, and we have means to be employed to prevent this attack from succeeding, “Thompson mentioned.
